Surface-Mounted LED Panels: Lighting Without Lowering the Ceiling

The surface-mounted panel is the answer for spaces where a suspended ceiling cannot be built. It fixes straight to a concrete ceiling and needs no cutting or plaster work. In a rented flat, an office refurbishment or a project that has to be delivered quickly, it is the most practical option. Our collection holds 27 products and 26 of them have a published price.

When Surface-Mounted, When Recessed?

• Surface-mounted: a concrete ceiling, a low ceiling height, a space where no building work will be done. Installation is finished with a few screws.
• Recessed: where there is plasterboard or a grid suspended ceiling; the fitting finishes flush with the surface and gives a plainer ceiling.

If your ceiling height is below 240 cm, the depth of a surface-mounted body becomes noticeable; choose slim-profile models.

Power and Area

The most common values in our catalogue are 12 W, 15 W, 18 W and 24 W. For a small bathroom or corridor, 12–15 W may be enough on its own, while in a 15 m² room distributing several panels evenly gives a better result than one high-output panel: when the light does not come from a single point, shadows soften.

Shape and Layout

Round panels set a soft rhythm in corridors and entrance halls; square and rectangular panels follow the lines of the space. Placing the panels parallel to the wall and at equal spacing makes the ceiling read as ordered. Make sure the cable outlet falls under the body of the panel — otherwise an additional trunking is needed.

Driver

On most surface-mounted panels the driver is integrated into the body; on models with a separate box, allow for the driver remaining on the ceiling surface. Keeping it accessible means you will not have to take the ceiling apart if it fails.
