Where does a floor lamp go?

The three most common places: beside a seat (20–30 cm from the arm, for reading), in a corner (for indirect light washing the walls) and behind a desk (fill light that reduces screen reflection). Keep it out of walkways and door swings.

How tall should it be?

The ideal range for reading is 150–170 cm. The lower edge of the shade must stay above a seated person's eye level, otherwise the bulb glares. Shorter lamps are fine for pure atmosphere, but do not go below this range if anyone will read by it.

Which bulb?

With an E27 socket the choice is yours. For reading and relaxing, 2700K warm white; for working, 4000K neutral. If your circuit is dimmable, a dimmable LED lets you tune the brightness through the evening.
