The Track Spotlight System: Track Type, Power and Layout
A track spotlight frees lighting from fixed points: you can slide the fitting along the track, change its direction and add another one later. That is why it is standard in displays and shops. Our collection holds 59 products.
Identify the Track Type First
The track and the fitting must have the same contact structure and come from the same system. On multi-circuit tracks, fittings can be connected to separate circuits and switched independently — in a shop window that means two different scenes for day and evening.
- Surface track: fixed straight to a concrete ceiling; the most common use.
- Recessed track: sits in a channel prepared in a plasterboard ceiling and finishes flush with it.
- Suspended track: brings the fitting closer to the product in rooms with a high ceiling.
Power and Beam Angle
The most common powers in our catalogue are 30 W and 40 W; for commercial spaces with high ceilings there are also fittings of the 80 W and 120 W classes. The beam angle matters at least as much as the power: a narrow angle picks out a single product, a wide one lights the whole shelf.
How Many Fittings Do You Need?
In a display, plan one fitting for each product to be highlighted. For shelf lighting, keeping the spacing between fittings at about half the shelf height gives a balanced result. Choosing a track long enough to let you slide the fittings later always pays off in practice.
Budget
Our 35 products with a published price run from 0.80 EUR to 166 EUR, with a median of 37 EUR. Track sections and connectors sit at the lower end and high-output shop fittings at the upper end. The track, the connectors and the fittings are separate products; budget for all three together.
Three Common Mistakes
- Choosing the track too short: being able to slide the fittings later is the track's biggest advantage; keep the run somewhat longer than you need.
- Ignoring the beam angle: two fittings of the same power produce a completely different display if their angles differ.
- Leaving the feed point until later: which end of the track is fed must be decided before the ceiling is built.
