LED Profiles

12 products

Used on its own, LED strip shows its light source as a row of dots and tires the eye. An LED profile takes the strip into a channel, spreads the light through a diffuser cover and turns the result into an unbroken line of light. The aluminium body also acts as a heatsink — heat is the main factor deciding an LED's lifetime. The plasterboard cove profile is recessed into the ceiling or wall and comes with its cover. The trimless profile finishes flush with the plaster; it has no visible frame, so the light appears to come straight out of the surface.

Choosing an LED Profile: The Unseen Part of a Concealed Light Line

An LED profile is not only a carrier: it spreads the heat of the strip, softens the dotted look with a diffuser, and turns the run into an unbroken line. A strip installed without a profile has a shorter life and shows the individual chips. Our collection holds 12 products and every one of them has a published price.

Profile Types

  • Surface: screwed straight onto the surface. The quickest solution, with no building work.
  • Recessed: sits in a channel cut into plaster or furniture; the profile finishes flush with the surface.
  • Corner profile: aims the light at 45 degrees towards a wall or a shelf. The type most used inside cupboards and under worktops.
  • Suspended profile: lowered from the ceiling on cables; gives the effect of a linear luminaire.

Diffuser: Opal or Clear?

An opal diffuser spreads the light and hides the chips — that is what is preferred on decorative runs. A clear diffuser passes more light but does not fully hide the dotting; it is used in technical applications where light loss is unacceptable. The greater the distance between diffuser and strip, the less the dotting shows: deeper profiles give a more even line.

Heat Spreading

The aluminium profile spreads the heat the strip produces across its body and lowers the chip temperature. With high-output strips, using a profile is not a preference but a requirement; without one, the light output drops markedly over time.

Sizing and Cutting

Profiles are sold in standard lengths and cut with a mitre saw. At corners a 45-degree cut looks cleaner than a butt joint. Fitting the end caps after cutting keeps dust out and completes the finish.

Budget

All 12 products are priced: from 12 EUR to 108 EUR, with a median of 19 EUR.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every strip fit every profile?

The strip must be narrower than the internal channel of the profile; compare the two dimensions before ordering.

Which strip should I use?

Voltage and power-per-metre options are listed under LED strip.

Is a driver needed as well?

Yes for low-voltage strips; you can pick the right class under LED modules, drivers and transformers.
