Battery wall sconces were designed for everyone without a sconce outlet. The fitting runs on a 9V battery; there is no cable to run, no plaster to break and no electrician to call. You hang it like a picture with two plugs and screws and switch it on at the body. That solves a real problem for three kinds of user: renters (no permanent change to the wall; it unscrews and travels with you), finished homes (paint and wallpaper stay intact) and places wiring never reached (an alcove, a column face, a stair landing, a dressing room, a pantry). Our models are dual-mode: the battery is an option, not an obligation. If you have a cable run later, unplug the battery from its connector and wire the same fitting with the spring terminal supplied. LED bulbs come fitted and a 9V battery is in the box — the sconce arrives working.

Does a battery sconce really work without electricity?

Yes. There is a 9V battery compartment inside the fitting and an on/off switch on the body. The battery comes fitted; take it out of the box, hang it, and it works. No socket, cable or outlet is needed in the wall.

How long does the battery last?

At two to three hours a day on average, a 9V battery lasts several weeks. The more you use it, the shorter that gets. It does not cut out suddenly — the light dims gradually, which tells you when to change it. For more than six hours a day at full brightness, mains power is more economical.

Can I hardwire it later?

Yes, all our models are dual-mode. Unplug the battery from its connector and wire it into your mains using the spring terminal in the box. We recommend having this done by a qualified electrician, with the circuit switched off first.

Who is it right for?

Renters: no permanent change to the wall; two small holes when you leave.
Finished homes: paint, wallpaper and plaster stay intact.

How long does a charge last?

The duration depends on how often it is used and at which level; models with motion detection or a remote spend the battery only when needed and therefore last far longer.

Does it damage the wall?

Adhesive and magnetic mounting options are applied without drilling; that is why they are preferred in rented homes.

Does it give the same light as a wired sconce?

It is sufficient for fill and accent light; it should not be expected to cover the general lighting of a room. For general light, wired sconce models are more suitable.
