Does a battery sconce really work without electricity?

Yes. There is a 9V battery compartment inside the fitting and an on/off switch on the body. The battery comes fitted; take it out of the box, hang it, and it works. No socket, cable or outlet is needed in the wall.

How long does the battery last?

At two to three hours a day on average, a 9V battery lasts several weeks. The more you use it, the shorter that gets. It does not cut out suddenly — the light dims gradually, which tells you when to change it. For more than six hours a day at full brightness, mains power is more economical.

Can I hardwire it later?

Yes, all our models are dual-mode. Unplug the battery from its connector and wire it into your mains using the spring terminal in the box. We recommend having this done by a qualified electrician, with the circuit switched off first.

Who is it right for?

• Renters: no permanent change to the wall; two small holes when you leave.
• Finished homes: paint, wallpaper and plaster stay intact.
• Where wiring never reached: alcoves, column faces, stair landings, dressing rooms, pantries.
