T24 & Channel Grid Systems

8 products

T24 takes its name from the 24 mm exposed width of the carrier profile. The 3.60 m main runner hangs on hanger wires; 1.20 m and 0.60 m cross tees drop in between to form 60x60 or 60x120 cm openings. The tile lays freely into these openings and can be lifted by hand — it is the easiest system for reaching the ceiling void. Channel carriers are used in plasterboard suspended ceilings. The profiles stay behind the board and the ceiling surface reads as unbroken. The holes in the cross carrier are the points the hanger wire passes through.

T24 and Channel Grid Systems: The Exposed-Grid Ceiling Framework

T24 is the most widespread carrying system in suspended ceilings: the profiles have a 24 mm wide T section and the tiles simply rest in the openings. The system's greatest advantage is that every tile can be lifted on its own — nothing is broken to reach the ceiling void. This section holds 8 products and every one of them has a published price.

Parts of the System

  • Main runner: the long profile; it is tied to the concrete slab with hanger rods and carries the load.
  • Cross tee: drops in perpendicular between the main runners. Our catalogue holds 0.60 m and 1.20 m lengths; the 1.20 m model has holes for intermediate connections.
  • Perimeter trim: the edge where the system meets the wall; this profile sets the level of the ceiling.

Module Size and Tile Compatibility

The standard opening is 60x60 cm, and the mineral wool, gypsum, metal and PVC tiles on the market are produced to that size. In channel (concealed-channel) grid systems the groove in the tile edge engages the profile and the carrier shows less from below — it gives a plainer ceiling surface, but the tile and the system have to suit one another.

Order of Installation

The perimeter trim is fixed to level, the hanger points are marked and anchored, the main runners are hung, the cross tees are dropped in and the tiles go in last. The openings that will take a light fitting, a vent or a speaker must be decided in advance; extra hangers are added at those points.

Why Is It So Widespread?

The prevalence of T24 is no accident: its parts are standard, tiles from different manufacturers fit the same system and spares are easy to find. When a tile breaks, only that tile is replaced; the rest of the ceiling is untouched. Offices and commercial spaces need constant access to the ceiling void — cables are pulled, vents are added, fittings are changed — and a demountable ceiling lets that work be done in minutes. In a plasterboard ceiling the same job means breaking out, patching and painting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it differ from a Clip-in system?

In T24 the carrier is visible from below and the tile lifts freely; in a Clip-in Grid System the carrier is concealed and the panel locks into place.

Where are the hangers and clips?

They are under the Ceiling Mounting Accessories heading.

Which tile should I buy?

System-compatible products are listed under Suspended Ceiling Tile.
