Description
An adjustable panel spot differs from a fixed one in a single respect: the body angle can be changed. Instead of throwing light straight down you can aim it at a picture, a bookcase, a textured wall or a worktop.
What it is for
Accent lighting is the second layer added on top of general lighting. It does not light the room; it tells you where to look. A picture on the wall, an open shelving system, a stone or timber wall surface — all of these are brought forward by this spot.
Placing an accent spot 30–50 cm out from the surface it lights lets the light fall across the face; putting it directly overhead leaves a hard patch.
It works alongside fixed spots
An adjustable spot is not meant to light a room on its own: it gathers the light in one direction, so an even level would take more units than necessary. The right arrangement uses both together — fixed spots carry the general level, adjustable spots take on the accent. In a living room the ratio is usually one adjustable spot for every three or four fixed ones.

Usage & Warnings
Before installation
- Switch off the circuit at the fuse box before wiring.
- Check the cut-out diameter against the figure given for your chosen wattage. If the hole is cut too large the fixture will not hold.
- Allow at least 5–8 cm of clearance above the ceiling for the fixture and its driver.
- This product is for recessed installation and cannot be mounted directly onto concrete.
Driver placement
- Place the driver where it can ventilate and be reached later; never bury it in insulation material.
- The driver is the part most often replaced in a lighting run — plan access for it.
Use
- Wipe with a dry cloth; do not use abrasive cleaners.
- For indoor use. Areas exposed to direct water, such as above a shower or bath, require a fixture with the appropriate ingress protection rating.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does an adjustable spot differ from a fixed one?
A fixed spot throws light straight down and is for general lighting. The body of an adjustable spot rotates and is used to aim light at a particular surface. In one room they are used together: fixed spots for the general level, adjustable ones for accent.
Where should I place it to light a picture?
30–50 cm out from the wall the picture hangs on. Directly overhead the light falls as a hard patch and the frame casts a shadow. With that offset the light washes down the surface instead.
How far does it rotate?
In this range the body typically adjusts through 20–30 degrees. That is enough for an accent from ceiling to wall; for sharper angles a track spot system is more suitable.
Which colour temperature for accent lighting?
The accent spot should be the SAME colour temperature as the general lighting in the room. Different temperatures side by side leave yellowish and bluish patches on the wall, which looks worse than either light on its own.
Can I use them for general lighting?
You can, but we would not recommend it. A directional spot concentrates light in one direction; lighting a room evenly would need more of them than necessary. For general lighting a fixed panel spot or a ceiling fixture is more efficient.
