Description
A 220V LED strip connects directly to the mains without an adapter or driver. It comes with a plugged lead and offers a clear advantage over 12V in long runs.
Why it wins over distance
On a 12V strip the voltage drops as the cable lengthens and the end of the run is dimmer than the start — noticeably so beyond five metres in a single length. A 220V strip does not have this problem; a single run can reach fifty metres.
The safety difference
This strip carries mains voltage. It is insulated inside a silicone tube, but bare contact can occur at cut and join points. Cut only at the marked points and insulate the ends with the manufacturer's connectors. Where hands reach constantly — inside cabinets, low runs in a child's room — choose the 12V version.

Usage & Warnings
Mains voltage
- This product carries 220–240V mains voltage. It needs no driver and connects directly.
- Have cutting, joining and any fixed-wiring connection carried out by a qualified electrician.
- Where hands regularly reach — inside cabinets, low runs in a child's room — choose the 12V version instead.
Cutting and insulation
- Cut only on the marked points.
- Cut ends MUST be insulated with the manufacturer's connector; leaving an end exposed creates a risk of electric shock.
- Outdoors, all connection points must be sealed against water ingress.
Use
- Never cut, drill or fix the strip while it is energised.
- Do not bend the tube while frozen; in cold weather it loses flexibility and may crack.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose 220V or 12V?
For long single runs — façades, long corridors, wide cornice perimeters — 220V. For inside furniture, cabinets, displays and anywhere hands reach, 12V. 12V is safer but weakens beyond five metres; 220V runs far but carries mains voltage.
Can I cut and join it?
Only at the marked points, and the cut end must be insulated with the manufacturer's connector. Because it carries mains voltage, leaving an end open is dangerous. If you are unsure, have an electrician do the cutting.
Can it be used outdoors?
IP65 versions are protected against rain and can be used under eaves, on balconies and in gardens. IP44 versions resist splashing but should not be exposed to direct rain. In every case the connection points must be sealed against water.
Does it work as soon as I plug it in?
Yes, no additional device is needed. The product comes with a plugged lead and works once connected. That is the most obvious difference in use from a 12V strip.
Do the LED dots show?
The silicone tube spreads the light and softens the dots. Up close they can still be picked out. If you want a completely continuous line, look at Neon LED — that tube is designed for it.
