Description
An LED installation needs the parts that feed and join it as much as the part that gives light. This page gathers the connection parts required for LED strip, neon LED and chandelier modules.
Two questions make the choice
First pick what you already have (which neon profile, which strip type, which chandelier module), then the part you need. Parts are not interchangeable: a 6×12 mm neon adapter will not fit 7×15 mm neon — the profile differs.
What each part does
- Adapter — connects 220V neon and strip to the mains with a corded plug end. Needed when the product arrives without a cord, or when the run is extended.
- Connector — joins two pieces without soldering. It also takes on insulating the cut end; a line carrying mains voltage is never left with a bare end.
- Mounting clip — fixes neon tube to a surface. Tube laid without clips moves in the wind and over time works the connection points loose.
- Dimmer — reduces output on a 12V strip line. Above 6 amps you need more than one, or a larger model.
- Chandelier transformer — feeds a constant-current chandelier module. In a chandelier that has stopped lighting, this is usually the part that needs replacing, not the LED module.
Adapter or transformer
The two get confused. An adapter here is a connection end: it plugs a 220V product into the mains and does not convert voltage. A transformer converts voltage and feeds 12V products. Connecting 220V neon to a transformer, or plugging a 12V strip straight into the mains through an adapter, destroys the product.

Usage & Warnings
Selection
- Choose a driver rated at least 20% above the load it will feed. In a 12V system 10A corresponds to 120 W.
- An oversized driver does no harm; an undersized one overheats and fails early.
Placement
- The driver warms up in use and needs ventilation. Do not bury it in a sealed box, in insulation or inside plasterboard.
- Place it where it can be reached when maintenance is needed.
- The input side connects to 220–240V mains; have this connection made by a qualified electrician.
Use
- A noticeable hum usually means the driver is running at the edge of its capacity; reduce the load or move to a larger driver.
- Do not use in wet or damp locations; this is an indoor part requiring ventilation.
Frequently Asked Questions
I bought 220V neon — do I also need an adapter?
Not if the product came with a corded plug. If it came without one, or you are extending the run, you need the adapter matching its profile. Adapters differ by profile: the one for 6×12 mm will not fit 7×15 mm neon.
Are an adapter and a transformer the same thing?
No. The adapter here is a connection end; it plugs a 220V product into the mains and does not convert voltage. A transformer converts 220V to 12V. Plugging a 12V strip straight into the mains through an adapter destroys it instantly.
Can I solder instead of using a connector?
Soldering is a valid method and gives a permanent joint; but on a line carrying mains voltage the soldered end must also be insulated separately. A connector carries that insulation itself, which makes it safer in practice.
Does the dimmer suit every strip?
This dimmer is for a 12V line and carries up to 6 amps. If your total load exceeds that, split the line or use a larger model. 220V strip and neon do not work with this dimmer.
My chandelier will not light — transformer or module?
Usually the transformer. An LED module rarely fails all at once; you see flicker first, then darkness, and that points to the transformer. Have it checked before replacing the module, or the new module will not work either.
Can I lay neon without mounting clips?
On a short, sheltered indoor run adhesive may be enough. On facades and long runs clips are required: an unfixed tube moves in the wind and over time works the connection points loose.
