Choosing Metal Wall Art: Size, Colour and Matching the Wall

Choose the Size by the Wall

• Above a sofa: the composition sits in balance when the piece is roughly two thirds the width of the sofa.
• Corridors and narrow walls: a vertical arrangement or a pair works better than one large piece.
• Hanging height: the centre of the piece reaches eye level at about 145–150 cm from the floor.

Colour and Finish

There are three main directions in metal art: black produces a sharp graphic effect on a light wall, gold and copper tones add warmth, and white brings relief on a dark wall. If there is not enough contrast between the wall colour and the piece, the pattern disappears — take the colour of your wall as the starting point.

Think About It Together With the Lighting

The real effect of metal art appears with light. A light that washes the piece from the side throws the shadows of the cut-outs onto the wall and deepens the surface. For that you can use wall lights or an adjustable decorative LED spotlight.

Installation

Metal pieces are light and fix to most wall types with a standard plug. On a plasterboard wall use a toggle fixing; on brick and concrete, a plastic plug in a hole drilled with the right bit is enough. The most practical method is to hold the piece against the wall and check the height by eye before you mark the fixing points.
