Sky Openness on High Ceilings: A Guide to Choosing Pendant Panels
In high-ceilinged spaces where conventional lighting falls short, pendant sky panels offer a modern alternative that brings light and aesthetics together. What Are the Advantages of Pendant Sky Panels?
Unlike recessed panels, pendant models do not become part of the ceiling — they become the focal point of the room. These are the strengths of the system:
- No suspended ceiling required: they mount easily onto existing solid ceiling surfaces, with no obligation to build a plasterboard or grid ceiling.

Which Spaces Are They Not Suitable For?
Functional as pendant sky panels are, they are not recommended in low rooms with a ceiling height below 2.60 metres, where they can restrict movement and tire the eye. Drop Height and Placement
What decides the effect of a pendant sky panel is not only the panel but how far down it hangs. Left too close to the ceiling, there is no point in it being a pendant at all; taken too low, it blocks movement and the sky effect falls outside the line of sight.
- Over a dining table: when the underside of the panel stays 70–80 cm above the table surface, it neither blocks the view nor loses its effect.
- Seating area: if it is not on a walking route it can be dropped lower; the real criterion is that a standing person does not hit their head.
- High ceilings: this is where the pendant arrangement works best — the panel reads as a piece of sky suspended in the air.
The suspension cables must be set to equal lengths; a difference of a few centimetres makes the panel look tilted, and that does not go unnoticed.
