How many watts should the driver be?
The driver should be rated at least 20% above the total load it will feed. For a total load of 80 watts, for example, a 100 watt driver is suitable. A driver chosen at the limit runs continuously at full load, gets hot, and its service life is shortened markedly.
Why does the output voltage matter?
The output voltage of the driver must be the same as the operating voltage of the strip or module it will feed. Driving a 24V strip with a 12V driver leaves the light dim; the other way round the product is overdriven and its life is shortened rapidly.
