When to choose a surface-mounted spotlight

A surface-mounted spotlight is fixed directly to the ceiling surface instead of being recessed into it. It is a practical solution for concrete ceilings without a suspended ceiling, where there is no space behind the ceiling for a recessed housing, or when you want to add lighting without cutting the ceiling. Because the body stays visible, the fitting also becomes part of the design and is often used in industrial, minimalist and modern interiors.

Of the 22 models in this collection, 13 have a square body, 3 a cylinder and 3 a round body; alongside black and white housings there are black models with copper and platinum inner reflectors. Products with a listed protection rating are IP20 and intended for dry indoor areas; models with a listed body material use aluminium.

LED fitting or GU10 socket?

14 models in this collection are listed as LED spot fittings and run on 220 V mains voltage. Alongside square sections such as 6×6, 8×8 and 10×10 cm, there are rectangular bodies of 6×12, 8×16 and 10×20 cm and 3 cylinder models. The body depth (such as 10 or 14 cm) determines how far the fitting projects from the ceiling; on low ceilings, shorter bodies give a cleaner look.

7 decorative models have a GU10 socket: the GU10 bulb you fit sets the light colour and power, and you can change the light colour later by changing the bulb. For models whose specification table states that no bulb is included, you need to choose one separately; for the Bergama series a maximum bulb power of 50 W is listed. 3000K warm white bulbs are a common choice for living areas, and 4000K neutral white for kitchens and work areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between surface-mounted and recessed spotlights?

A surface-mounted spot is fixed to the ceiling surface and its body is visible; a recessed spot sits inside the ceiling with only its frame visible. If there is no space behind the ceiling, a surface-mounted model is the choice.

How is a surface-mounted spotlight installed?

The body is fixed with screws and wall plugs at the point where the ceiling outlet is located. Make the connection with the circuit breaker switched off; ideally, ask an electrician for help.

Which bulb fits a GU10 spotlight?

A bulb with a GU10 base. The bulb you choose sets the light colour and power; if a maximum bulb power is listed in the specification table, do not exceed it.

Can surface-mounted spotlights be used in a bathroom?

Products with a listed protection rating in this collection are IP20 and intended for dry indoor areas; damp areas need a higher protection rating.
